One Last
Time

upon this couple,
she’s not knowing what
he’s about to say
or do.
face to face,
he tells her
they cannot be.
As she stands there
broken hearted,
she asks him, “Why?”
As she starts to cry,
“Sorry...”
is all he can say.
These words
do not come easily
as he says,
“Forget me.”
to erase all the pain
she feels
standing there
out in the rain.
Knowing he left her
in confusion,
she questions
why
as they say
their last goodbye.
their own way.
But, the one thing
he will remember
always
is the pain he felt
when he looked
in her eyes
one last time.
