On Monday, February 11, 2002, Waterways brought together sixty students attending NYC Vocational Training Center at Bronx Community College to participate in a morning of music and poetry.
The students met fellow VTC students for the first time and interviewed each other about their interests in arts, careers and service learning.

Students watched performances by poet Ofelia Rodriguez Goldstein and percussionist Ron McBee.
The students were then given the opportunity to perform. Many students read passages from Streams to the approval of their classmates.
